Tiger Mosquito or Aedes aegypti: vector of Disease of Dengue and Chikungunya



Dengue is viral disease caused by  the single RNA stranded virus called DENV. It belong to genus Flavivum and family Flaviviridae. There are four strain of virus named DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV  3, and DENV 4. This disease is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti and related species. Mosquito  remain infective through out the life . Mosquito that spread Dengue, remain active during mornings and evening. Dengue virus has different types of protein which can affect innate immune  system of human.

Types of Dengue: Dengue is of two types as per its severity. 

Classical Dengue fever : It is also called as Break Bone fever. It is more frequent in adults. The symptoms of that fever mostly start with conjunctivitis but within hours persons suffers from high fever, retro - orbital pain, severe headache which may increase up to back or joints or muscles. Person may feels chill  and rashes on arms, chest and back. This  type of fever may remain up to 5 to 7 days but in mild form.

Dengue haemorrhagic fever: This is most fatal may starts with high fever, nausea, headache,  vomiting,  abdominal pain, haemorrhage spot on forehead,  internal bleeding to blood in stool, urine and vomiting. Blood platelets number  may decrease upto 70000 per mm cubic. During this fever, there may be leakage of blood plasma from blood vessels and may be accumulated in chest and abdominal  cavity and supply of blood to organs of body may affected. This is called as Dengue shock syndrome.

Paracetamol may be helpful  to increases the  platelets but use of Asprin and Disprin are harmful. 

The only control measure is the  protection from mosquito bite by covering of feet, legs, and arms. Their larva must be eradicated during their breeding season.

Chikungunya is caused by virus Alpha virus CH/K- V. It is also spreaded by the biting of tiger mosquito or Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopiticus. The infection of monkey and Human act as reservoir of furthur infection.

The word chikungunya is derived from African languages from the word Bantu which means bent up because it affect the posture of person by the development of arthritic symptoms.

The patient also has stains or eruption  on limb and trunk and arthritis of multiple joints. There is a fever 102 to 104 F for about two days. It is also associated with conjunctivitis and photophobia. After the disappearance  of fever , headache and arthritis may remain for 5 tov7 days.

Chloroquine phosphate is very good remedy of this disease which is reduced so quick by using it. 

The only control measure is the  protection from mosquito bite by covering of feet, legs, and arms. Their larva must be eradicated during their breeding season. There must be no stagnant water in cooler.
